LC3 Technology
Assessment of local raw materials, LC3 formulation and testing, with support for pilot and plant trials.
Full description
Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) combines clinker, calcined clay, limestone and gypsum to reduce clinker use. NC4SCM assesses local clay suitability, optimises calcination and binder composition, and evaluates mortar and concrete performance.
The team’s experience includes national clay exploration, LC3 research and demonstration at NED UET, and technical work with Cherat Cement and Power Cement. Support covers laboratory development, staff training and the preparation and evaluation of pilot or plant trials, according to the agreed project scope.
Methods & capabilities
- Clay surveys, sampling and raw-material screening.
- Chemical, mineralogical and thermal characterisation using XRF, XRD and DTG–TGA.
- Calcination trials, grinding and particle-size assessment.
- Reactivity assessment using R3, and methylene blue value testing, interpreted alongside mineralogy and performance data.
- Binder formulation, gypsum adjustment and mortar/concrete mix design optimization.
- Hydration, strength and durability evaluation.
- Technical assessment and monitoring of pilot or plant trials.
Typical deliverables
- Raw-material suitability and characterisation report.
- Recommended calcination conditions and LC3 trial formulations.
- Reactivity, hydration, strength and selected durability results.
- Feasibility assessment and pilot/plant-trial plan where included in the scope.
- Technical recommendations and staff training materials.
